A couple of Photography related things

Hi everyone.. Shaun here. I am writing a quick post to update some information related to upcoming events, specials and the rest of this year.

First and foremost, The PHOTO WALK is on Saturday! I don’t know if anyone is planning on joining Jennifer and I in New Haven, but if you do, then you will just be hanging out with me. Jennifer had something come up and she will not be able to attend the walk. If you did sign up and you want to meet up and compare shots, then leave me a comment and I will email you back.

On a very serious note… if you are planning on having a session with Jenn this year, the rush is on. Every year about this time the phone begins to ring a bit more and the emails start to pile up. In the last week, we have begun filling Jenn’s calendar for the remainder of 2009. As you may or may not know, Jenn shuts the business down starting December 1st though January 1st in order to spend the holidays with family. Last year in November we had to turn away customers who were looking for holiday pictures simply because we were all booked up. Don’t let this happen to you. There are still plenty of session openings left before December, but do not wait until November 1st to call!

Lastly, another promotion for you. Become a fan of Jennifer Langdon Photography on Facebook and get $10 off your session fee. Also, for every friend you have on your profile, we will give you an additional dollar (per friend, max of 40) off a 2009 session fee. So.. all in all, you could save up to $50 dollars off a session just by becoming a fan of Jennfer Langdon Photography on Facebook. This will be an excellent way to share your preview images with all of your friends and family!

3 years old

Characteristics of a 3 year old:
You CAN be batman and spiderman in one day (phew! that clears up that myth!)
You can survive on lollipops alone (if someone would only let you)
The surface you’re walking on can turn to hot lava at ANY given moment (very tricky)
You know just how to aggravate your sister (even if she IS older than you)
You can catch frogs like it’s your job (well, it IS your job)
You have the ability to carry on a conversation and not pronounce any S, F or L sounds at the beginning of a word. (example, My wittle doot is tilly. Translation: My little foot is silly.)
And last – you have the CUTEST little grin ever. (yeah, that definitely means you’re 3)

Happy Birthday little man!

Do you like walking? How about photography? Friendly people?

Well, you can get all of this plus a fun evening out in New Haven if you decide to join Jenn and I for the 2nd Annual Scott Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk. on July 18th in New Haven from 5pm till….

I participated in this event last year in Hartford (see images below) and I had the best time!! You may be asking yourself, what the heck is a photo walk? A photo walk consists of a large group of people with cameras walking a set route taking pictures of anything that interests them. Landscapes, portraits, macro, still life, street photography, photojournalism, architecture. You can get it all on one of these walks! The best part is you get to meet a bunch of really FRIENDLY people who also like photography, like to take pictures and like to share ideas. At the end of the walk, everyone meets up to talk, look at the shots people have taken and have some food/drinks at a local establishment. Overall it is a wonderful time and Jennifer and I would like you to join us.

The special thing about this particular event is that you will be part of a worldwide event. You see, there are over 900 walks going on in cites all around the world on this same day. There is no sign up fee, there are no special requirements, all you have to do is walk and take pictures. It does not matter what kind of camera you have…. have a professional camera (come along), have a point and shoot (come along), have a cell phone camera (come along), have a film camera (does anyone still have one of these :) , come along). Come hang out with Jenn and I, take some pictures of lovely New Haven and treat yourself to a nice dinner afterwords!

Here is the link for the New Haven sign up (link) or feel free to use the link at the top of the post to find a walk near you. Jenn and I hope to see you in New Haven!!

Here are some of my pics from last years walk.

I almost went for a swim….

My favorite special I offer is a complimentary engagement session for anyone who is planning an upcoming wedding. I love meeting people before their wedding day and I feel there’s no better way than to have a “getting to know you session”. That’s waaay more fun than sitting down and having a consultation! I like people to get to know my style and see if we’re match. (no this isn’t the Dating Game!) This is how I met Candace and Greg. They’re planning a 2010 wedding. Shaun and I met them this weekend at Harkness State Park. They’re the SWEETEST couple. We heard about their love story and their upcoming wedding plans. We talked about our jobs and where we live. Oh yeah, and we took a bunch of pics too. They’re pretty sweet as well :)

We started in the greenhouse area, where I found out Candace has a Beautiful Smile… especially when she is in Greg’s arms.

This next series of three is my favorite little nook at Harkness.. It reminds me of one of my favorite movies. Great Expectations!

I just love this moment!

I was chasing this ray of sunlight around right from the moment I entered the gardens. I finally found the spot where it was hitting Greg and Candace perfectly. I love the warm glow of the sunlight on their skin against the cool shadows of the garden.

Every once in a while Shaun finds a pic where he likes to do a bit more with it. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don’t…. I love it in this image!!

This is where I almost went swimming…. that water was cold!!

This was the perfect shot to close this session. Candace and Greg, it was great to meet you both… Enjoy the Preview.

Susan & Luis

Another great engagement session this week! I’m so excited about the weddings I’ll be shooting this year! All the couples Shaun and I have met with recently are so great. We’re in for such a fun wedding season.
I don’t think there was a better location to have had this session. Gillette Castle in East Haddam just seemed to fit them.
A little background – Luis and Susan are into performing and let’s just say they’re really good at it! I didn’t have to ask them to “do” anything. They just did it! They posed themselves, they hugged, they laughed and they joked around a little. Ok….a lot actually. But that’s just them. And I captured that quite a few times. I could have made this blog post just on the “out takes”. And believe me, it would have been hilarious!

Aren’t they naturals in front the camera?

SO here is how the next three pictures fit together.. follow the dialog below
Shaun: “Susan, you have amazing eyes!”
Susan: “Wow, thank you”
Luis: “Yes, she has bedroom eyes!”
Susan: Gives Luis that look that Shaun knows all to well (see second pic)
Shaun: “Oh, Jenn nailed that shot.. this is definite blog material”
Everyone: laughing (pic 3 of this series)

We headed over to the Goodspeed Opera House for a change of scenery

And THIS is my personal favorite…After taking pics outside, Shaun said “think we might be able to go inside?” We walked in and we were not welcomed with open arms. But I found this couch and HAD to use it. I got this shot by standing in the MENS bathroom doorway and dodging an usher or two. So worth it!!
