Beginners Luck..

Hi, Shaun here… and this is the story of my first shoot all by myself.

Last weekend, Jenn had a pregnancy shoot with a friend of ours (Rachel) but about 2-3 hours before she got a migraine.  She was really going to have to reschedule but did not know where she was going to fit it in before Rachel’s due date (14th).  After seeing her struggle with the idea of shooting with a migraine, I said “well, I could shoot it for you”  and Jenn said “Really??, that would be great!?  Are you sure?”  “Sure” I said and that’s when it hit me… that terror… you know… that adrenaline rush like when you just got pulled over by the cops or when you have that nightmare that you left your kid at home sleeping and went to the grocery store.

You see I have assisted Jenn at weddings and shoots.  It is easy to sit back and shoot when your only responsibility is to get a good shot here and there or to make sure the light is working.  To be in charge of a session when you have spent more time reading about photography then actually shooting is TERRIFYING!

Once I got the camera in my hand it was sink or swim and (Thankfully) with the help of Sarah (Jenn and Rachel’s best friend), patience from Rachel and Darren, some great natural light and a bit of good luck…. I swam.

Now the only thing left is the pics….

So, I was told that Rachel has only gained 21lbs in her entire pregnancy… I think I gained more than that watching Jenn be pregnant. She is all Belly!

Darren is an excited dad to be.

The one above and the one below are my personal fav’s of Rachel alone.  The natural light was perfect peeking just over the top of the barns.

Rachel is very dedicated to yoga and wanted some pics with her performing some poses.  For the strobist’s out there.. the natural light died down so I tried bring Rachel out of the background using a bare SB-800 to add some hard light to this striking pose.

Another Yoga pose…used a shoot through umbrella to add some directional light while underexposing the background.

Thanks again to Rachel and Darren letting me shoot your pregnancy session and I hope you enjoy the pics.

A Chocolate lab named Pete

This session wasn’t ONLY about Pete (although he did steal the show for a bit!) It was about the new little boy growing inside his mommy, it was about the love that his mommy and daddy share and their anticipation to meet him!! Although it seems like an eternity, they only have another month to wait!

I need your help…

Shaun here…. I participated for the second year in the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk in New Haven, CT. It is a GREAT event where people of all photographic skill levels and backgrounds can come together and have a nice time doing what they enjoy… Taking Pictures. I would like to do some of these on a smaller scale with some photog friends of mine and anyone else who is interested in taking some pics or learning more about photography. More on that to come…

As you may recall, Last year I posted some pics of my photowalk in Hartford, CT. This year I picked out a few images that one person or another mentioned that they liked and I am going to post them below. I would like you to leave a comment telling me which two you like the best. I will submit those two images to the New Haven photowalk site to have a chance to win some pretty cool prizes. So if you wouldn’t mind, I would love to hear your input!!

Thanks,
Shaun

Mike & Michelle's Wedding

Michelle & Mike HAVE to be two of the most fun-lov’in people I’ve ever met. And I’m not the only one who feels this way – that’s for sure! They were surrounded by all their family and friends – and it was hard not to breathe in the love that was felt towards them by all. Their day couldn’t have been more perfect. They started the afternoon with a ceremony at St. Patrick’s Church in Farmington, then headed to Simsbury for a BEAUTIFUL tree ceremony, and then off to the Riverview for a PARTY!! (I don’t think I’ve ever been to a wedding where the dance floor was so FULL of people all night long!) I heard 3 of the most wonderful toasts. All of which made me tear up. (Very difficult to look through wet, teary eyes while taking pics!) Mike & Michelle were soo gracious and thoughtful towards us on THEIR wedding day. We are truly lucky to have been chosen to share their day with them. And (not naming any names) but I’m totally over the broken glass/spilled beer all over my pant leg. No worries, it’s all part of the fun :)

I love this one! You can tell she’s so bored with the picture thing

It was adorable- Michelle’s dad was holding onto the back of her dress so it wouldn’t drag on the ground before they entered the church

Shaun caught Mike’s first glimpse of Michelle as she entered the church – I love the look on his face!

It was so sweet – at the end of the night Mike was rubbing Michelle’s tired feet.

Michelle told us when they went to the jewelers to get their wedding bands the jeweler told Mike he had “mitts” for hands – because his ring size was so big. Compared to hers, I’d say so.

A couple of Photography related things

Hi everyone.. Shaun here. I am writing a quick post to update some information related to upcoming events, specials and the rest of this year.

First and foremost, The PHOTO WALK is on Saturday! I don’t know if anyone is planning on joining Jennifer and I in New Haven, but if you do, then you will just be hanging out with me. Jennifer had something come up and she will not be able to attend the walk. If you did sign up and you want to meet up and compare shots, then leave me a comment and I will email you back.

On a very serious note… if you are planning on having a session with Jenn this year, the rush is on. Every year about this time the phone begins to ring a bit more and the emails start to pile up. In the last week, we have begun filling Jenn’s calendar for the remainder of 2009. As you may or may not know, Jenn shuts the business down starting December 1st though January 1st in order to spend the holidays with family. Last year in November we had to turn away customers who were looking for holiday pictures simply because we were all booked up. Don’t let this happen to you. There are still plenty of session openings left before December, but do not wait until November 1st to call!

Lastly, another promotion for you. Become a fan of Jennifer Langdon Photography on Facebook and get $10 off your session fee. Also, for every friend you have on your profile, we will give you an additional dollar (per friend, max of 40) off a 2009 session fee. So.. all in all, you could save up to $50 dollars off a session just by becoming a fan of Jennfer Langdon Photography on Facebook. This will be an excellent way to share your preview images with all of your friends and family!
