Monthly Archives: June 2009

2 weeks old

I’m not really into taking pics out in the cold and rain, especially of newborns. It’s not my thing. But…..it just so happened that the sun was out (for once!) and there was great light outside so I decided we would go outside and shoot for a bit. The baby was just getting warmed up to the idea of having his picture taken – and it starts to sprinkle. Then we started losing sunlight. Plus it was getting cold – so cold, in fact, that he started shaking! Full body shakes!! I felt so bad keeping him out in the freezing cold JUNE weather that we had to go inside for the rest of the pics. I’m so sorry little “A”. I will do just about ANYTHING for a great shot, except that. I will never do that again, I promise. :)

Do you like walking? How about photography? Friendly people?

Well, you can get all of this plus a fun evening out in New Haven if you decide to join Jenn and I for the 2nd Annual Scott Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk. on July 18th in New Haven from 5pm till….

I participated in this event last year in Hartford (see images below) and I had the best time!! You may be asking yourself, what the heck is a photo walk? A photo walk consists of a large group of people with cameras walking a set route taking pictures of anything that interests them. Landscapes, portraits, macro, still life, street photography, photojournalism, architecture. You can get it all on one of these walks! The best part is you get to meet a bunch of really FRIENDLY people who also like photography, like to take pictures and like to share ideas. At the end of the walk, everyone meets up to talk, look at the shots people have taken and have some food/drinks at a local establishment. Overall it is a wonderful time and Jennifer and I would like you to join us.

The special thing about this particular event is that you will be part of a worldwide event. You see, there are over 900 walks going on in cites all around the world on this same day. There is no sign up fee, there are no special requirements, all you have to do is walk and take pictures. It does not matter what kind of camera you have…. have a professional camera (come along), have a point and shoot (come along), have a cell phone camera (come along), have a film camera (does anyone still have one of these :) , come along). Come hang out with Jenn and I, take some pictures of lovely New Haven and treat yourself to a nice dinner afterwords!

Here is the link for the New Haven sign up (link) or feel free to use the link at the top of the post to find a walk near you. Jenn and I hope to see you in New Haven!!

Here are some of my pics from last years walk.

I almost went for a swim….

My favorite special I offer is a complimentary engagement session for anyone who is planning an upcoming wedding. I love meeting people before their wedding day and I feel there’s no better way than to have a “getting to know you session”. That’s waaay more fun than sitting down and having a consultation! I like people to get to know my style and see if we’re match. (no this isn’t the Dating Game!) This is how I met Candace and Greg. They’re planning a 2010 wedding. Shaun and I met them this weekend at Harkness State Park. They’re the SWEETEST couple. We heard about their love story and their upcoming wedding plans. We talked about our jobs and where we live. Oh yeah, and we took a bunch of pics too. They’re pretty sweet as well :)

We started in the greenhouse area, where I found out Candace has a Beautiful Smile… especially when she is in Greg’s arms.

This next series of three is my favorite little nook at Harkness.. It reminds me of one of my favorite movies. Great Expectations!

I just love this moment!

I was chasing this ray of sunlight around right from the moment I entered the gardens. I finally found the spot where it was hitting Greg and Candace perfectly. I love the warm glow of the sunlight on their skin against the cool shadows of the garden.

Every once in a while Shaun finds a pic where he likes to do a bit more with it. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don’t…. I love it in this image!!

The Dress

So….there’s this heirloom dress that was passed down through generations. Every person in the family has had their picture taken wearing it when they were 5 months old. So what do you think is the best thing to do with an amazing piece of history? I know….you eat it! Or, at least, chew on it. What else is there when you’re 5 months old? :)

Komen Race for the Cure

On Saturday my team, Gurley’s Gang, walked the 4k for the Komen foundation. It was more than just a walk for me. It was more than just great freebies, and fun music and getting a t-shirt. It was an achievement. ONE, I want to thank EVERYONE who helped us raise an AMAZING $1725! And TWO, because it was a wonderful way to celebrate my mom’s recovery from breast cancer.
